Summary

Learn about Idaho's aerial insectivores in this online class taught by expert John Rakestraw.

Description

Which Idaho bird can remain in the air for up to eight months? Which one can sleep for weeks at a time? Which ones nest underground? All of these are aerial insectivores; swallows, swifts, and nightjars, that eat, drink, and even sleep in flight. This class will introduce you to all the members of this group that call Idaho home, showing you how they live and how to find and identify each one.

John Rakestraw was born and raised in Indiana, and he worked as a naturalist in Kansas and Ohio before settling in Oregon.  John is a freelance writer, author of Birding Oregon and a regular teacher for Bird Alliance of Oregon.

This class will be geared to the experienced birder.

The class will be on Zoom. You will get the link after you register.  It will be recorded and made available to registrants afterwards.

Golden Eagle Audubon Society volunteers will lead a Swallows and Swifts field trip to Dedication Point Overlook and Swan Falls Park field trip on May 4 from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm.   It's only for class registrants, and space is limited.
